Visa section Swiss Embassy | Beijing | 2008

The existing visa pavilion built in 1999 is a solid building in concrete and brick. It cannot meet the increasing request of visas any more. We were approached to enlarge the working areas and provide a fresh representation of Switzerland in China.
The concept is to ¡®see the history through the decade¡¯. We keep the old brick building, which witnessed the accelerated pace of change in China; and extended it with a lightweight glass facade, through which the inside bricks still can be seen. Two kinds of architecture are overlapped in across time.
The facade is an abstract collection of Chinese characters with Swiss simplicity, which hides the steel structure. Bamboo is used as exterior and interior material to indicate the context - China. Both, Chinese and Swiss visitors, will sense a familiar impression.

The existing building contents as today the waiting area for visitors, the counters and the offices of the Visa section. The extension contents additional offices, a small meeting room, a server room and toilets. An air lock and a canopy will be added to the visitors¡¯ entrance.
The roof of the extension will be planted (extensive lawn system). for energy saving reasons floor and roof will be well insulated. Low-e glazing will be used in facade. A floor heating, ceiling cooling system with ventilation for fresh air meet a high quality of comfort.
The existing pavilion and his extension will be fully supplied by the existing technical installations in the basement of the chancellery.

RoSE project | Shanghai | 2007

The existing Building 2 will be completely refurbished, and an addition of two, four level, parallel wings will be constructed. All three building blocks are connected by 2-storey ¡°linking blocks¡± that connect the independent structures.
The new buildings will be a reinforced concrete structure (columns/ flat roof) with completely glazed fa?ades (thermally-isolated window frames and insulated glazing); external sun shades and a flat planted roof.

Boutique Hotel in Ordos | Ordos | 2007

To make an accommodation experience in Ordos different from anywhere else and to arouse a local cultural interest, we took inspiration from the traditional Mongolian dwelling, the yurt.
How to make the local tradition attractive? Scattered on the grassland, Mongolian yurts are round in plan, with interesting interior space. But they cannot be stacked into multi-story buildings to meet the use requirements of today.
We transformed this traditional interior space into contemporary architecture and implanted modern life style and hotel design into the traditional Mongolian yurt. The hotels unique structure radiates as an urban landmark while maintaining a culturally sensitive design in the region. The hotel we designed ensures individuality as each room is unique to ensure a high quality of space while maintaining a simple interior design. We propose to create an extraordinary living experience in Ordos. The hotels exterior experience is complimented by the building¡¯s extensive landscape in the front, and our unique and luxurious spatial arrangements within.

Hotel Panorama Fribourg | Switzerland | 2006

When the budget was minimal, and the client requested the generic, the beauty of the property was inspiring.
The architecture became one that was inspired by its own constraints and assets: the surface of the standard box building has its openings extruded to the landscape. Thus each guestroom shares a pixel of its environment.

Privat fountain in garden | Switzerland | 2006

The client needs a pretty herbs garden, so as to prevent the herbal from being attacked by the neighbor's cats.
Usually, cats are afraid of water. Thus we separated each herb by putting them in the bronze pot in water. Besides, the sharp edge makes it impossible for the cats to stand on...
Finally, we have a sweet fountain, but it seems that cats like walking on these sharp edges in water too...
